This year’s 2010 Fall Conference is in New Orleans. The dates are October 22-October 25. The hotel is the Hilton Hotel Riverside – check it out on the web. The subject of the conference has not yet been determined though suggestions of examining concepts of privilege; ally work; AO/AR/MC work; and music are in the mix. Of one thing we are certain — New Orleans and the reshaping (or as some say “uncovering”) that Katrina had on the city will be at the center of our time together. As Fahs taught us, “should not [our] inescapable confrontations with and reflection on…realities be the beginning of [our] religious education?” In other words, New Orleans is both the location and the subject of our 2010 Conference.

We are, however, not meeting in New Orleans so that we can be a version of that hotel button. We are meeting to learn how what we do, what we see, or what we hear changes how we live the rest of our lives. We are meeting in New Orleans to learn how to do what the Hebrew tradition calls tikkun olam — repair the world — not as saviors but as humble allies.
