Katie Covey celebrated 25 years of serving as a DRE, the past 10 at Boulder Valley UU Fellowship in Lafayette, CO.
Deborah Kahn has served the UU Church of Rockville, MD for 25 years.
Beryl Aschenberg, currently DRE of the FIrst Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, WI, has served as a DRE for 20 years.
Retirements
Charlotte Seth retired on January 17, 2010, having served as a DRE for 40 years. The last 17 years were at the UU Church of Roanoke, VA. Charlotte looks forward to travel with her husband in addition to taking art classes and returning to the piano.
Sabbaticals
Liz Jones, DRE at the First UU Church of San Diego, CA, will spend a sabbtical month (March) at her congregation’s Partner Church in the Philippines.
Degrees and Awards
Karen Brown, LDRE at the Morristown (NJ) Unitarian Fellowship was awarded a Master’s Degree in Specialized Ministry at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis.
Steve Cooper, who serves the DuPage (IL) UU Church is the recipient of the first annual Living Our Faith Together (LIFT) award from the Central Midwest District. The award recognizes multigenerational and/or interfaith efforts.
Life Member Jean Brown has been honored with Minister Emerita status by the Universalist Church of West Hartford, CT. Jean writes that she is controlling her lung cancer with regular chemotherapy and leading a little worship at the retirement village where she and her husband live.
Dawn Star Borchelt, CRE, who serves as Youth Coordinator for All Souls Church, Unitarian in Washington, DC and the UU Church of Silvery Springs, MD and adjunct staff for the Joseph Priestly District, has become a certified Doula. Dawn sees her new role complementing her work in religious education as she nurtures and mentors families.
New Positions
Kim Mason, who formerly served as DRE for the UU Fellowship of Hunterdon County in Baptistown, NJ, has been named the Director of Lifespan Programs and Services for the same congregation. New responsibilities, in addition to leading the religious education program, include facilitating communication systems that create awareness of opportunities for spiritual growth and expanding the congregation’s voice in the larger community.
Jan Gartner is the new DRE at the First Universalist Church of Rochester, NY.
Julie Lambert begins her position as DLRE at Bay Area UU Church in Houston, TX on February 1. She formerly served Pathways Church in Southlake, TX.
Millie Rochester was installed as parish minister at the First Unitarian Church of Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 1, 2009. Rev. Rick Davis, minister in Salem, OR, with whom she worked for 12 years when she was a DRE, offered the Charge to the Minister. Rev. Wayne Arnason, one of Millie’s internship supervisors, who had grown up attending the Winnipeg church, preached the sermon for the service.
Resigned Positions
Caroline Farley resigned from the Vancouver Unitarian Church as of November 29, 2009.
Erica Ward will resign her position at the First Unitarian Church of Chicago at the end of the program year.
